Karunbithil Shibira, an annual musical camp being held in the remote village of Nidle, situated on the Dharmasthala - Nelliady Road, since the year 2000, helping the music students in learning and inspiring to learn more. Started as a get-together of Karunbithil family under the leadership of Violinist Vidwan Vittal Ramamurthy of Chennai and his sisters settled in various part of the country, has now turned into a much-awaited annual event for the devoted music students who come back to Nidle every year for the Karunbithil shibira. Beginning with a handful of students in the year 2000, for imparting awareness in Carnatic Music in a remote village of Nidle today has turned into a major event with the participation of more than 200 students.
The participating students coming from the entire DK district and far off places, eagerly await for the shibira to begin for a fresh bout of enjoyment to last for a full year. The Karunbithil Shibira which started as a family affair has turned into an extended family affair as all the participants and the visiting star artists become like members of a single family, sharing all the tasks of the shibira. The star artists and the stars borne out of the Karunbithil shibira gave much publicity for the shibira. International fame artists like Lalgudy G Jayaraman, Dr. M Balamuralikrishna,Umayalapuram K Shivaraman, .Bombay Jayashree, T M Krishna, Abhishek Raghuram, are only a few who were the guests and resource persons who came to Karunbithil Shibira.
This year the curtains are getting ready to be raised for the shibira on 14th of May with VidwanT V Gopalakrishnan, Vidwan V V Subrahmanyam, Vid. Udupi Gopalakrishnan, Vid.Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, Vid. Abhishek Raghuram, Vid. Srimushnam V Raja Rao, Vid.Thiruvarur Bhakthavathsalam and many others participation. All these artists are well known across the world and have their own achievements to their credit. This year the shibira is going to have more interesting innovative surprises to the participants, including surprise concerts,full-fledged performing opportunity to every participant with violin and mridangam, magic shows,quiz, lecture demonstrations, Yakshagana and other surprises including an opportunity to know the star artists from a closer view.
On May 19th on the grand finale of the Karunbithil Shibira, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D.Veerendra Hegde will bless the participants.
Oscar nominee Bombay Jayashree will draw the curtains to the Shibira with a grand concert.
