Mangalore: Department of Information Science & Engineering and CSE (Data Science) of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru celebrated Energy Conservation Week & Energy Conservation Day - 2024 on 13th January 2025, in association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL). 

The event commenced with the introduction of the program by Dr. Rithesh Pakkala P., HOD of ISE & CSE (DS), and welcoming the guests. K. P. Rudrappaiah, MD of KREDL, highlighted the importance of integrating energy conservation into daily life and discussed Karnataka's Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Policy (2022-2027). He also provided an overview of renewable energy, the Energy Conservation Act, and the role of KREDL, emphasizing that "One unit of energy conserved equals two units of energy generated."

The winners of the quiz competition held on Jan 8, 2025, were awarded by K. P. Rudrappaiah with the cash prize. Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director - R & D, SCEM, highlighted the importance of renewable energy sources and appreciated the department for organizing government-sponsored activities on the campus.

Dr. M. Krishna Kumar, Co-founder & COO of Hydgen, addressed the significance of energy conservation in engineering and explored topics such as climate change, decarbonization technologies, and the advancements in green hydrogen and energy transition technologies. 

Dr. Karthik provided insights into the pillars of energy transition, the different types and production methods of hydrogen, and the role of electrolyzers in supporting the hydrogen economy. Dr. Sudheer Shetty, the Vice Principal, the officials from Hydgen, the teaching and non-teaching staff, and students of ISE & CSE (DS) were present during the program. 

Following the session, a Walkathon was inaugurated by Dr. S SInjaganeri, Principal, Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director - R&D, Dr. Sudheer Shetty, the Vice Principal, Dr. Srinath S, Professor & COO-SCEM. A total of 200 students participated and the HODs and the faculties of various departments witnessed the program. The students and staff visited more than 200 households in the Adyar area to raise awareness about renewable energy, energy conservation tips, and sustainable practices. The event was coordinated by Prajna U R, Assistant Professor, Department of ISE.
