Vatican City, Dec 31: Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away today December 31, 2022 in the morning. He was 95. He died at his Vatican residence.
The Vatican said in the statement "With sorrow I inform you that Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9.34 in the Master Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. Further more information will be provided as soon as possible"
Birth name Joseph Ratzinger from Germany, in 2005 at 78 he became one of the oldest Pope ever elected. Benedict led the Catholic Church for less that eight years and stepped down in 2013.
