Mangalore: St. Aloysius Higher Primary School Alumni Association, part of the St. Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA), Mangalore, in association with Chess Hive, a school for Chess; organized a rapid chess tournament “CHESS-A-THON 2025”for players in the region on Sunday, 29th June 2025 at St. Aloysius Higher Primary School, Mangalore. The top chess talent across the district and beyond participated in the event.
CHESS-A-THON saw participation from 300 students from all around Dakshin Kannada District. The tournament featured 6 competitive categories: U7, U9, U11, U13, U16, and Aloysius Alumni.
The tournament followed the Rapid format under Swiss-system rules, with each category hosting between 5 to 7 rounds. The top 5 players in each category were awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates. All participants received a certificate of participation in recognition of their performance.
A highly experienced team of arbiters oversaw the tournament, including Denzil Cutinha, Subodh Kumar, SNA Nayana Kumar, NA Rahul and Soundarya UK under the leadership of Chief Arbiter FA Sakshath UK.
The highlight of the event was IM Viani Dcunha who played a friendlyclock SIMUL game with 12 students simultaneously. A simultaneous exhibition or simultaneous display (SIMUL) is a chess game exhibition in which one player of high rankplays multiple games at a time with a number of other players.
Micheal Dsouza, Philanthropist was the chief guest for the inaugural program while Venkatesh Pai, Executive Director, Bharath Group of Companies was the chief guest for the valedictory.
