Mangalore: Stress management is aptly explained in the quote: ‘It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it’ – Lou Holtz

Stress is a part of life - In order to handle stress effectively, we have to accept that we cannot control everything and always maintain a positive attitude.  So, how do we manage stress?  We have to put our stress in perspective, replace negative thoughts with positive ones and be proud of our achievements, no matter how small.

In continuation to the capacity building trainings organized by CODP® Mangaluru for its office and field level staff, a day’s workshop on Stress Management was held  in Mother Teresa hall, ISD.  There were 30 participants .

Fr. Oswald Monteiro, Director of CODP welcomed the resource person Alwyn DSa, Vice-Principal, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.  He welcomed also the participants and then went on to introduce the topic and purpose of organizing the workshop.

Alwyn then took over the topic.  Throughout the day he encouraged the participants to enjoy the sessions.  He divided the participants into two groups and conducted some games through which he explained about ‘Stress’.  He also quoted real–life instances and how such situations can be dealt, without pondering over negatives and stressing ourselves unduly.  He said that ‘Stress’ is more of a mental or psychological situation than a physical one.  We can manage stress by making small changes to our life, we can prevent stress by practicing self-care and relaxation and managing our response to stressful situations when they do occur.  “Start the day with positive thoughts; Make a list of what to do and what not to do.  These, simple exercises will help us to be less stressful throughout the day” he said.
