New Mangalore Port achieved yet another milestone ,when the Secretary Gopal Krishna, IAS inaugurated the newly constructed terminal at berth no.16 for mechanised handling of coal at a project cost of Rs. 469.46crores in the presence of the Port Chairperson, Dr. M. Beena, IAS, and the terminal Operator,  Chettinad Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt. Ltd. represented by its CMD  M.A.M.R. Muthaiah. 


The Terminal will enhance the Port’s cargo handling capacity by nearly 6.73 MMTPA and will enable NMPT to position itself as number one amongst the cleanest ports of the country.Speaking on the occasion, secretary congratulated the port and the terminal operator for adhering to the project timing and stressed on the importance of Private Public Sector cooperation to achieve the larger objectives of the Govt. 

He also said that the initiatives of the port will further contribute towards the development of the region and the State of Karnataka, for which the Ministry of Shipping stands fully committed.
