Puducherry: Police have arrested a Tamil Nadu man who tried to approach the actor with a handgun in a security lapse during Vijay's TVK rally in Puducherry on Tuesday.

However, the police carefully checked everyone entering the restricted rally venue at Expo Ground (New Port) in Uppalam and arrested him.
The arrested man is from Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu and said that he is a private security officer and could not join his team on time, a police officer said.
The man claimed to have a licensed revolver. When reporters tried to identify him and asked who he was providing security to, the man refused to answer. But he said that he has a gun license.
The man has been detained for further interrogation. He was carrying a handgun on his hip and the gun was found when police at the entrance of the venue searched him, a police officer said.
After 41 people died in a stampede while party founder Vijay was addressing a rally in Karur on September 27, the Tamil Nadu Vetri Kalagam rally was restricted to just 5,000 people.
