Puttur: St Philomena Autonomous College buzzed with festive cheer as faculty, and guests marked Christmas with love, harmony, and exuberant celebrations on Wednesday.

Presiding over the event, College Principal Rev. Dr Anthony Prakash Monterio emphasized the essence of the festival that is caring and sharing. “Take care of others in your life and share the happiness and joy you have with them,” he said. “Christmas blends countless emotions.”

Chief guest Prof. P. L. Dharma, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, urged to help one another, live in peace and equality, spread love, and ensure their actions benefit others.

Retired Principal of Bettampady Government First Grade College, Dr Varadaraj Chandragiri, highlighted literary tributes to Christ by poet Govinda Pai, and noted that values like love, faith, and honesty existed before religions emerged, and “God reminds us of what we forget.”

Finance Officer of Mangalore University Sri Panchalinga Swamy S., affirmed that no religion teaches hatred or opposition. “Those who love themselves can spread love like butterflies,” he said, adding that true happiness comes from ensuring joy for those around you, just as butterflies scatter delight.

The program featured a Christmas message from Social Work Department Coordinator Shrimani, carol singing by faculty and students, and a prayer led by Zoology Department lecturer Shivani Mally. IQAC Coordinator Dr. Edwin D’Souza welcomed guests, while Office Superintendent Rufina D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Prithvi compered the event.
