Moodubidire :The Hindu is organising it’s 3rd edition of “Inter-Collegiate Zonal Level Debate Contest” in association with
Rostrum - The Speaker’s Club of Alvas Education Foundation on Tuesday 9th April 2019 at Alva’s College, Vidyagiri, Moodubidire, Dakshina Kannada.

RULES & REGULATIONS:
The debate contest is Open for students pursuing graduation & post-graduation courses (General & Professional courses).
Please note that the entries from each department from an institution is limited to four participants.
Last Date for receipt of entries: 7th April, 2019.
The debate will be conducted in English.
Transport facility to pick up and drop students is arranged from Mangaluru (Jyothi Circle at 7:30 am) and Udupi (City Bus Stand at 7:00 am).
Accommodation will be arranged for outstation students at Alva’s campus on prior information. Food will be arranged at the venue.

Free Entry. Entries to be submitted through respective institutions.
Students are requested to bring in their college ID cards.

Phases of the Debate Contest:
Round – 1: Group Discussion
Topic for GD will be given on the spot. Ten Participants will take part in group discussion
for each round.
Round – 2: Turncoat
Participants will hand-pick the topic from the lot and speak on it. The duration will be restricted to 4 minutes.
On the buzzer sound the participant is required to take the opposite stand on the topic.
All participants must take part in round 1 and 2.
Debate Finale:
The selection of participants for Debate Finale will be decided by panel of judges based on the
performance in the round 1 and 2.
Ten Contestants will be chosen for the final round.
Finale will be held on the same day at the same venue.

The participants are required to prepare in advance (for and against) for all the above topics for the Debate Finale.
Structure of the Debate Finale:
Maximum duration of the debate finale: 10 minutes.
The selected participants for the Debate finale speak for or against based on the topic mentioned with slip picked from the lots.

(Questions and reply on the views by both for and against by participants on the topic.)

Cross question by the panel of Judges, audience and summarisation
Any offending statements presented by the participants on religion, gender, personal allegations and use of offensive language during the contest will lead to disqualification of the
participants.
At any stage, the decision of the organizers and the judges will be final.
