Udupi : Senior Congress leader and former vice president of district Congress Committee, Entrepreneur, social activist,  K Krishnaraja Saralaya was found dead in the well of his residence at Paniyadi near here on Saturday, February 29, 2020.

Saralaya popularly known as "Pataki Saralaya" was suffering from mental depression. He had a firecracker shop on Car Street at Sri Krishna Math. The two daughters of the Saralaya were married and settled in Australia and Bangalore. His wife has been receiving treatment at a Chennai hospital for a year. The man, who was living alone in the house, committed suicide by jumping in his house well, police said.

The senior Congress leader, the simplest 76-year-old, was the head of the 76 Badagabettu Bailoor grama president. He also served as the Vice President of the District Congress. He has served in the cooperative sector for many years with the Korangrapadi Agricultural Cooperative Society, Udupi Town Cooperative Society as president. He had been in the fireworks business for many years in Kalsanka and Rathabeedi in Udupi.

He was worked hard as a companion of national and state leaders such as TAPai, Oscar Fernandes Madhvaraj, Manorama Madhvaraj, Veerappa Moily, Janardhan Poojary. He served as Member of Dakshina Telecom Advisory Committee Member of Southwestern Railway Palghat Division. He was served as president of Udupi  D.K. district fireworks dealers association.He was also active in social, religious and cultural activities. He served as a bureaucrat on many alternatives.

He also served as Paniyadi Yuvaka Mandala Hon. President, Udupi Lions Club and Rotary Club President, Hon President of Paniyadi Ganeshotsava Committee and honoured by the all Udupi Maths Swamijis. The Co-operative Ratna Award from the State Government and was the recipient of many awards, including the Karamballi Zone Brahmin Samiti Sanmana.
