Udupi : What is the urgency to start schools in the state? In spite of a steep increase in the number of coronavirus in the district as well as in the state, the state government has failed to take a firm stand on the reopening of schools and created lot of confusion.
Addressing a press meet at Udupi Press Club here on Friday, June 5, Mohammed Sheesh said that every day the number of cases increases. In between Education minister giving complicated statement that government not opening the schools presently. On the other hand, minister told to enroll the students in the government schools. Under the current circumstances, what was the urgency to announce about the reopening the schools? Mohd. Sheesh asks.
He said in our district most of the students studying in government schools are from other districts. These students are depends on the government student hostels. Presently every government hostels are the centers of COVID quarantine people..
If we see while many countries like Italy and Israel have witnessed increased number of students tests positive of coronavirus after reopening the schools. Here also in our state, it would be not safe to reopening the school. The management of the schools should strictly adhere to precautionary rules provided by the government, but if we see, while travelling in a bus or other public vehicles, nobody will follow the government guidelines either.
He said the students of above 6th standard can understand the rules and guidelines of the government. It would be very difficult to lower classes to students to maintain guidelines of the government. Our politicians not follow the rules of the government. How the students of lower classes can can follow the rules, he said.
He said that some private schools have already started the collection of school fees, transport fees and also pressurizing to take away the school books from the parents. Due to confusion by the state government parents and guardians are in midst of problems. We request the government to intervene and should give clarity in this regard.
Sheesh said the monsoon already started. During the monsoon rainy season the cold, fever, cough and other minor health problems always common. In this situation, if one student suffers from such problems, there would be possibility to see the students in different ways which will effects the students. The sanitizing the students would be very difficult in the schools. Hence, it would be better if the schools would open after rainy season ends normally in October, he said.
The citizens demanded that the schools should reopen after the monsoon ends and the management should delay the collection of school fees.
