Bantwal: A driver died after a gravel-mixed asphalt in the lorry fell on him near Sajeepanadu in Bantwal on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Rafiq (45), a resident of Golipadpu, Sajeepanadu. The cleaner Yusuf, who was in the lorry, was seriously injured when asphalt fell on his hands and feet. The drivers of the other lorry, Rizwan and Alpas, were also injured and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The accident occurred at Kanchinadkapadavu while he was going to Sajeepanadu from Kanchinadkapadavu. An asphalt tipper lorry coming from behind collided with a lorry carrying red stones. The force of the collision caused the two tipper lorries to overturn and fall into an areca nut plantation nearby.
The hot asphalt mixed with gravel stones in the tipper lorry fell on the driver of the lorry carrying red stone. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru, but to no avail. The driver, Rafiq, who was scalded by the hot asphalt, died. The cleaner Yusuf, who was also there, was also treated for asphalt and is receiving treatment.
