Chandigarh, Nov 18: The BSF has neutralised 255 drones from Pakistan used to smuggle heroin and arms so far this year, a senior officer of the Punjab Border Security Force said.

He said the BSF has strengthened surveillance to check smuggling activities from across the border in view of the upcoming winter season.
Speaking to the media in Amritsar on Monday, BSF Inspector General Atul Fuljele said that visibility decreases during the fog season. Smugglers using drones can exploit this opportunity.
"We have made necessary arrangements to address this problem. Special surveillance equipment will be used in foggy conditions and we will keep a strict watch on the riverine areas. We will strengthen our overall surveillance grid," Fuljele said.
He said that BSF personnel will keep a watch on persons moving near the border areas to retrieve drone drop-offs from across the border.
BSF troops and Punjab Police conduct joint checks on the roads leading to the border areas to prevent smuggling. “We do this every year and are doing it this time too,” the IG said.
“So far, BSF has neutralised 255 drones coming from Pakistan,” he said.
