Chikkamagaluru, April 23: The Mudigere police have arrested five people who stole black pepper stored in front of their house and seized 145 kg of black pepper worth Rs 1.03 lakh and the two-wheeler used in the crime.
The arrested accused are Darshan (21) of Bailahalli village in Hassan district, Girisha (27), Ramesh (20), Akshaya (27) and Prashantha of Kundur in Chikkamagaluru district.
A farmer named Ramachandrappa of Makonahalli village in Mudigere taluk had dried 145 kg of black pepper in a bag on the lawn in front of his house and stored it. The couple had gone to Mudigere town for work and when they returned home, they found that the black pepper packets were stolen. They immediately filed a complaint with the Mudigere police station.
The police, who registered the case, under the guidance of District Superintendent of Police Dr. Vikram Amate, ASP Jayakumar, Shailendra, a team comprising Circle Inspector Rajashekar, Srinath Reddy, Vaibhav, Sajjan, Vinay, Mehboob, and Nayaz, investigated and arrested the accused, seized the stolen goods and took further action.
