Chennai, Aug 09: The owner of Coldriff Syrup manufacturer Sresan Pharmaceuticals Company has been arrested in connection with the deaths of 20 children.

The Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested S. Ranganathan, the owner of Srisan Pharmaceuticals Company, which manufactures Coldriff cough syrup.

A case was earlier registered against Srisan Pharma. The company's owner Ranganathan was taken into custody by the Madhya Pradesh Police in Chennai this morning. The state police were looking for him in connection with the deaths of at least 20 children in the state after consuming poisonous syrup, and a reward of Rs 20,000 was also announced for information.
Children died in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan after consuming the syrup. The children suffered from kidney infections after consuming Coldriff syrup.
Coldrif is a medicine prescribed to treat cold and cough symptoms in children, including runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and watery eyes. Earlier this month, Tamil Nadu authorities declared the syrup adulterated after samples were found to contain diethylene glycol, a toxic and harmful substance.
