Srinagar, June 19: Around 90 students from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) out of the 110 Indian nationals evacuated from war-torn Iran arrived in the national capital Delhi on Thursday.

he students thanked the central government for their safe evacuation. But they expressed their dissatisfaction over the transport arrangements provided to them, which led the Jammu and Kashmir government to make different arrangements.

Kashmiri students who reached Delhi were not provided transport facilities from the airport like students from other states. They have been advised to travel in SRTC buses. They are exhausted from the continuous journey for the last four days. "This is extremely disappointing," said Nasir Khuhaimi, national convener of the J&K Students' Union.

Later, Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that students would be taken to the union territory from Delhi in deluxe buses.

He also said that the Transport Commissioner has been directed to arrange deluxe buses of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation to transport the students.

"The Chief Minister has taken note of the request of the students evacuated from Iran regarding the quality of buses arranged for the students to travel from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir," the office said.

"The Commissioner has been tasked with coordinating with the JKRTC to ensure that proper deluxe buses are arranged," the CM's office said.

At least 1,300 students from Jammu and Kashmir are studying in various educational institutions in Iran.
