Chennai: Thirty-six people who were stuck in mid-air during a Top Gun fun run at an amusement park near here have been rescued.

The 36 people who were stuck at some height above the ground were rescued safely using psi lifts, a senior Fire and Rescue Services department official said.

We were able to rescue all 36 people, including 20 men and 16 women, using two psi lifts. They are all safe, said District Fire Officer Loganathan.

Around 35 personnel of the Fire and Rescue Services department along with local police were involved in bringing down the trapped people. There was complete chaos when the Top Gun ride, which can go around a full circle, suddenly got stuck. Fortunately, it was on the ground. They were averted the danger of falling down.

However, a woman who was later rescued said she was terrified as there was no one to comfort or rescue her for about two hours. A visibly shaken man said he had sought police help using his mobile phone and Instagram account.

We received a call at 7.20pm that 36 people were trapped on the fun ride called Top Gun. After our initial attempts to rescue them using a ladder failed, we used two scissor lifts to safely lower them one by one, Loganathan told reporters.

None of the rescued people were injured, he said. He said an ambulance was brought to the theme park to check on their health. He said it is suspected that the giant ride got stuck in the air due to a mechanical fault.
