Bangalore, June 03: Due to fear of keeping valuables including gold jewellery, most households keep them in lockers. However, a shocking incident has now come to light. A housewife from Bangalore has complained to the police that 145 grams of gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh that she had kept in her locker is missing.
A woman who was lost after the bank officials did not respond to her complaint after the jewellery was stolen from her locker has filed a police complaint against SBI officials. A 54-year-old housewife from Bangalore, Bindu C.D., has filed a police complaint against the officials of the Dollars Colony branch of the State Bank of India, alleging that 145 grams of gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh went missing from her locker, The Hindu reported.
The incident came to light after the woman failed to get any clarification from the bank officials despite several complaints. She said she had to approach the police after they did not listen to her complaint. According to the report, Bindu C.D. has been holding a savings account and locker facility at the SBI Dollars Colony branch since December 2022. In her complaint to the Sadashivnagar police, she mentioned that she had last checked her locker in November 2024 and that all her valuables were intact at that time.
However, when she visited the locker on March 28, 2025, she found that the gold and diamond jewellery she had stored there was missing. Shocked by the disappearance, she immediately brought the matter to the notice of the bank officials. But to no avail. Bindu did not stop there - she called SBI's customer service, but to no avail.
Finally, she filed a complaint with the Chief Vigilance Officer. However, her efforts were fruitless. Instead, they were repeatedly told to check the house for missing items. Fed up with this, Bindu finally filed a complaint with the police.
The police, who are acting after registering a case against the SBI officials, have registered a case against the SBI officials under Section 305(A) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with theft from dwellings, conveyances or places of worship. The police have started an investigation into the matter and are expected to question bank staff and examine CCTV footage and entry records to identify any possible violations.
