Mumbai, Aug 20: In addition to the chaos caused by the heavy rains in Mumbai, a monorail broke down due to heavy traffic between Chembur and Bhakti Park stations, further straining the residents of Mumbai. At least 200 passengers were reportedly rescued from the broken monorail in this incident.
The monorail got stuck between Chembur and Bhakti Park stations due to some technical reasons. As soon as the news came to light, all agencies including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the fire department and the Municipal Corporation have reached the spot. "The safety of all passengers will be given top priority," he said.
Appealing to the people not to panic, Devendra Fadnavis also assured that all passengers will be evacuated safely.
Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani confirmed that there were around 200 passengers on the train.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that due to heavy rains in Mumbai, local train services have been suspended, resulting in severe congestion on the monorail.
