Mangalore: St Aloysius PU College Mangaluru, organized an orientation programme for the newly admitted students of I PUC on 13 June 2022. More than 2000 students attended the orientation programme organised separately for Science, Commerce and Arts streams.
Sandra Lobo, Associate Professor, Head of the Psychology Department, School of Social Work, Roshini Nilaya inaugurated the academic year and motivated the students on the occasion. The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the students and a solemn inter-religious prayer session by the II PUC students. The Principal Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, welcomed all the dignitaries and the newly admitted I PU students. In his message to all the students, he stressed that College life is an important phase in life and hence the students must use their time wisely, be systematic, sincere and hard working. He also encouraged the students to make use of opportunities and nurture their talents so that it will help them to become balanced individuals. He further said that we celebrate diversity in this campus and therefore respecting each other, growing in understanding and appreciating religious traditions would help us become men and women for and with others.
Lastly, Fr Clifford enumerated the three tips of success. ‘First, read something, which no else is reading. Second, think something no one else is thinking about and that will make you creative thinkers and third, do something that no one else is doing and this way it will help you to contribute for the well-being of the society’.
The resource person, Sandra Lobo, appreciated the solemn prayer service and congratulated the students on choosing one of the best colleges in the city. She told the students that,” Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change”. She encapsulated the need to open up the thoughts, words and speech. She said that we need to unmute and unmask ourselves and we need to put forward our real self. She also motivated the students to learn and relearn and wished the students the best for the academic year ahead.
The Vice Principal for Science, Muralikrishna G M and the Dean for Science, Kiran Shetty, Vidyalaxmi R, Co-convener were also present on the occasion. Manasa, Department of Physics, Convener of the Orientation programme for Science students proposed the vote of thanks. Deepthi Rani M K, Department of English compered the programme.
