Bengaluru, March 21: Amidst the summer heat, residents of the state will face another challenge with an increase in electricity rates. The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has announced that the rate hike of 36 paise per unit will be effective from April 1.
Under the Griha Jyoti Yojana, the state government will continue to cover electricity charges for up to 200 units. However, the price hike will apply to consumers not covered by the scheme and to commercial users.
The KERC has imposed this increase to help fund electricity transmission costs and provide for the pension and gratuity of Eska staff. This move comes as a blow to the people, who are already grappling with rising prices for essential commodities.
