Mangalore: “Being a student leader is the most responsible task and a great way to learn about yourself because you will find who you can become and all the opportunities that are available to you. A leader must always have confidence in his abilities and school is a great place to build your confidence. There are a lot of activities that you can participate in, to develop your confidence. You must be able to communicate with your team in a manner where they feel inspired to work hard and achieve their true potential at work. If you are able to inspire such feeling in your friends in school chances are you'll carry forward the trait with you when you step out into the professional world. Also, taking up leadership roles in school will help you familiarize yourself with the situations wherein you'll have to address big groups of people and you'll be confident enough in your ability to do so” said Ramesh K., Chief Advisor of the Shakthi Education Trust speaking on the occasion of the investiture ceremony of the students’ union at Shakthi Residential School.

“There are certain qualities and things that a good leader must demonstrate such as specific behaviour, attitude and skills that act as an inspiration and benchmark for those under them.When you take up leadership roles in school and produce good results, it gives you an edge over other candidates in consideration increasing your chances of getting recognised. As a leader, you'll have to learn to condition yourself to the pressures that you'd be facing on an everyday basis. The school provides the best ground for us to hone our skills, make mistakes and learn from them and finally perfect the desired skills” he added.

Vidya Kamath, Principal of Shakthi Residential School in her Presidential address congratulated the new office bearers and stated that “As a student leader, you will learn valuable soft skills while gaining real-world leadership experience. It helps one to advance his/her communication, expectation setting,time management, responsibility, public speaking and organization. While in a student leadership position you will interact with many different types of people, itwill teach you to work in collaboration with others”.

“As a student leader you are going to develop innumerable leadership skills including conflict resolution. One needs to have networking abilities.

You will learn how you deal with conflict and situations that you are not used to and will be able to make bonds and friendships that will last the rest of your life” she concluded.

Prakyath Rai, Institute Development Officer, all teaching and non-teaching staff along with students of higher grades were a witness to the oath taking ceremony.

The school choir under the leadership of Sharanappa, Kannada Teacher invoked the blessings of the almighty and Sangeetha MarinaPeris, English Teacher compered the show and managed the formal function.
