Jealousy is a negative emotion which is associated with negative thought and insecurity. Jealousy harbors ones personality. If we vent it up it explodes, so jealousy is destructive .Jealousy burns our mind and heart, thus blocking heart chakra. But the spiritual wisdom will bring you solace, comfort and satisfaction. Jealousy exists when one has not learnt to rejoice in the success of others. Jealousy is the jungle of comparison.

Overcoming jealousy:  It begins with awareness. Awareness allows you to see that the projected stories in your mind are not true. When you have this clarity you no longer react to the scenarios that your mind imagines.  Jealousy and anger are emotional reactions to believing scenarios in your mind that are not true. By changing what you believe you change what your imagination is projecting and you can eliminate these destructive emotional reactions.  Even when there is justification for the reaction, jealousy and anger are not beneficial ways to deal with the situation and get what we want.

Trying to change anger or jealousy once you are in the emotion is like trying to control a car skidding on ice. Your ability to handle the situation is greatly improved if you can steer clear of the hazard before we get there.  This means addressing the beliefs that trigger jealousy instead of attempting to control your emotions.

When we accept and love everyone as they are we don’t feel jealousy here is a short story of Warrior karna whose life got smashed just because of his jealousy nature.

Once, when Karna realized that Arjuna was superior to him in archery, he approached Guru Drona and requested him to teach him how to be blessed with Brahmastra.

Guru Drona declined saying he can't teach any but a learned scholar rooted in dharma or a Kshatriya who had purified himself by dharma and dhyana.

Disappointed Karna went to the Mahendra parvatha where sage Parashurama was staying. He deceived Parashurama by saying that he was a Brahmin and became his disciple. From him he obtained instruction in archery and the use of many Astra’s.

Karna chose to approach Guru Drona for Brahmastra not for peace, but to prove his strength over Arjuna. His choice was plagued by likes and dislikes like jealousy. Where he had a choice to appreciate Arjuna, which he could not because of his likes and dislikes of not accepting others as more knowledgeable. He deceived Parashurama, because he wanted to learn something special by which he could prove that he is more superior to Arjuna. Karna in Mahabharata, represents a person with unhealthy self-talk - I am not good, which resulted in unhealthy self-image.

When we are guided by unhealthy likes and dislikes like Karna, we cheat others, look for something which we don't deserve and doesn't like others, because we fail to accept the way we are, which may lead to destroy ourselves.

Accepting ourselves and appreciating all other beings will help us to remove jealousy and create a belief that each one is unique and have a special talent inbuilt within ourselves.
