Devanahalli: Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, has set a new record in passenger traffic and cargo movement in the financial year 2024-25, creating a milestone in passenger traffic and cargo movement. Kempegowda International Airport handled 41 million passengers and handled 500,000 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo in the financial year 2024-25.
Kempegowda International Airport handled 37.53 million passengers in the last financial year. The number of passengers increased to 41.88 million in the financial year 2024-25, an increase of 11.6%. While the number of domestic passengers grew by 10% to 36.05 million, the number of international passengers increased by 25% to 5.83 million.
The significant increase in the number of international passengers travelling through Kempegowda International Airport is mainly due to the expansion of IndiGo's global network. In addition, the additional daily flight from Bengaluru to London Heathrow, and the further increase in flight services provided by several foreign airlines including Cathay Pacific, KLM, Japan Airlines, and Qantas through Kempegowda International Airport have also contributed to the increase in the number of international passengers.
Kempegowda International Airport has been ranked as the third busiest airport in India in terms of international passengers for the last four months. Non-stop flight services are available from Bengaluru to 76 domestic and 33 international destinations, and the flight service to Hanoi, Vietnam, which will be launched from May this year, will become the 34th international destination.
Kempegowda International Airport has also set a record in cargo traffic. For the first time, it has achieved a significant milestone by handling more than 500,000 metric tonnes of cargo. A total of 502,480 metric tonnes of cargo was handled in the financial year 2024-25, registering a significant growth of 14% year-on-year.
Out of this, international cargo grew by 21% to 321,418 metric tonnes. Domestic cargo grew by 4% to 181,062 metric tonnes. For the fourth consecutive year, Kempegowda International Airport has strengthened its position by emerging as India’s No. 1 airport in the export of perishable goods.
