Mangalore: Mahatma Gandhi gained international fame following the path of peace. Let us be committed to realizing his idea of alcohol-free, clean society, said University College Mangalore Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai.

Speaking after inaugurating various competitions and cleanliness drive (plastic-free campus) organised by the Youth Red Cross unit of the college on the occasion of 154th birth anniversary at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Sabhabhavana here on Monday, she added, “Let’s start cleanliness from our mind, at home and let it continue.”

Meanwhile, she remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India, on his birth anniversary. Floral tribute was paid to Mahatma Gandhi. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions.

YRC Officer Dr. Bharathi Pilar welcomed and delivered the introductory speech. Computer Science Department Lecturer Vanur Swamy, Journalism Department Lecturer Guruprasad, Youth Red Cross student representatives Abhilash, Shravya, Preetika Rai, Vikyath were present. Prajna mastered the ceremony.
