Bengaluru: Keeping in mind ‘Los Angeles 2028’ (LA 2028), the state government has launched the Olympic medal scheme.

Under this scheme, 60 athletes will be identified and each athlete will be given Rs 10 lakh every year for three years. The state government has allocated Rs 6 crore for this.

According to the new guidelines, athletes will have to apply through the Seva Sindhu portal. It is learnt that the Sports and Youth Services Department will invite applications next week.
The department will select athletes who have performed well in national and international events. Those who have participated in World or Asian Championships, Asian and Commonwealth Games can apply. Those who have won medals in senior and junior national championships can also apply.
Under the group game category, athletes who have participated in national camps or represented Karnataka in national and international sports events for three consecutive years are eligible to apply. A senior official of the department informed that the department has formed committees to select the candidates.
This is the first time that guidelines have been formulated in this regard and only eligible candidates will be selected, sources said.
Based on the performance of the athletes, they will be given financial assistance for the second and third years. It has been informed that this money can be used for training, purchase of equipment and nutritional supplements and participation in state, national and international sports events.
