Mangalore: Department of Applied Zoology, Mangalore University organized a two-day National workshop on Animal Diversity and Conservation at Mangala Auditorium of Mangalore University, on Thursday and Friday.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Srinivasulu IFS, in his inaugural address, said that conservation of nature and wildlife needs involvement of general public, otherwise conservation of wildlife is difficult. “Scientists and researchers should also look into deciphering the knowledge to the common man understanding, then only the implementation of conservation policies becomes effective”. 

Dr. T.V. Ramachandra of Indian Institute of Science, in his key note address, said that water is the utmost need for all sorts of life to survive and then only nature conservation will be effective. We must train our students at the school level itself to make them future sensible citizens to conserve the environment. 

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof.  P. Subrahmanya Yadapdithaya, stressed in his presidential remarks that developmental activities are required for the progress of a nation; but it should not be at the cost of environment and biodiversity. Sustainable development is the need of the hour.

During the workshop, 8 sessions were held by eminent scientists invited from different Institutes/Universities.Over 300 delegates from different colleges and universities participated in the workshop.

Convenor of the workshop Dr. Narasimhaiah N welcomed the gathering and elucidated purpose of conducting the workshop Department Chairman Prof. M.S. Musthak proposed the vote of thanks. Suma Kote and Lavanaya, M.Sc. students, mastered the ceremony.
