Mangalore: Two cases of heart touching generosity were witnessed at the Father Muller Medical College Hospital where recently two kidney transplants took place.

Case1: Mother’s Love

Mr Immanuel, 35 years hailing from Hassan Chronic Kidney Disease in 2018 was referred to FMMCH. Having a bedridden father and a home maker mother Mrs Jayasheela being married, having a 5 year old child.

Mrs Jayasheela, 58 years voluntarily showed her willingness to donate her kidney to her son who was sick. Necessary procedures and protocols were followed as per the Government Directives for related Kidney transplant. The transplant was conducted on 01/12/19 and has been discharged on 28/2/20.

Case 2: A Sister’s love

Devotion to the creator does not make sense if there is no reverence to His creation was made true with a donation of life to Nun from a Nun. Sr Irene Laldinmawii, serving in congregation of Ursaline Sisters was diagnosed with CKD. Sr Aurea D’Souza 66 years of Holy Rosary Covent at Jeppu was moved at Sr Irene’s plight made a great revelation that of donating her kidney for the health of her former student Sr Irene.

This allograft procedure required tireless efforts by the team of doctors and precise documentation and verifications. On verification in Bengaluru at the State Operation Committee Human Organ Transplant, the officer exclaimed that it was the “first time such a case has unfolded, where a religious was donation her organ to another religious with the sole intent of helping. This is the mercy of God”. The transplant took place on 16/02/2020 and discharged on 6th March 2020.

The coordinated efforts by Dr Manjunah Shetty (Urologist), Dr Manjunath J (Nephrologist) and team of Anaesthetist and Technicians has been behind these successes. Both cases were extended help and support from the Director FMCI Rev. Fr Richard A Coelho. The FMMCH has its Transplant Coordinators with the District Organ Transplant Commission Dr Kelvin Peter Pais (Liaison Officer) and Ms Reshma  Carol D’Sa who liaison with the District body which is under the D.C. of Mangalore.
