Mangalore: In a major operation led by the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner late on Thursday night, an accused in a case of cheating businessmen and wealthy individuals of crores of rupees has been arrested, it has been reported.
Rohan Saldana (45), a resident of Jappinamogaru, has been arrested. It is learnt that a team led by Mangaluru Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy and ACP Ravish Nayak conducted an operation and arrested him on Thursday night.
Rohan Saldana used to target wealthy individuals from out-of-state and out-of-district areas by claiming to be a businessman and promising them loans along with land deals. In this way, the accused was found to have done business worth Rs. 45 crore in just 3 months. Police have informed that he has cheated more than Rs. 200 crore over the past many years.
The accused, who used to dupe businessmen and wealthy individuals, used to invite them to his luxurious bungalow in Jappinamogaru and conduct business. The police said that he used to make deals worth Rs 5 to 100 crore.
After the initial talks, he would take a stamp duty of Rs 50-100 crore from the businessmen or Rs 5-10 crore for larger deals, and after collecting the amount he expected, he would escape from the businessmen on various pretexts, the police said.
The police said that the accused would take Rs 50 lakh to Rs 4 crore from those who fell into his fraudulent trap and then mysteriously escape without anyone seeing him.

The police themselves were shocked to find valuable plants, luxury champagnes, and a stock of intoxicating drinks in the accused's house.
The police have informed that the accused's house, which looks like a grand bungalow, is luxuriously furnished inside and out, and has CCTV cameras installed in various hiding places.
