Mangaluru, July 22: In collaboration with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District Survey Unit, and Wenlock District Hospital, a workshop on the Home Health Scheme and the release of the ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) handbook was held on Tuesday at the Netravati Hall of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat.
MLA Ivan D’Souza inaugurated the program and said that the Home Health Service at the doorstep is a flagship initiative of the state government, aimed at strengthening the screening and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). He stated that by bringing healthcare directly to people's doorsteps, the government is taking a major step towards building a healthier society.
He emphasized that medical officers, health workers, and ASHA workers play a vital role in the effective implementation of the scheme. The goal of the health department should be to raise awareness and understanding among the public about regular health check-ups, treatment, follow-up care, proper nutrition, healthy habits, and exercise. He expressed hope that this program would successfully reach the general public, in line with the motto “Your Health is Our Priority.”
Presiding over the program, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. H.R. Thimmayya said that the health department is making sincere efforts to deliver all government health schemes and programs to the public. He stressed that every officer and field staff member must carry out their responsibilities to ensure the successful implementation of this scheme in the district.
District Survey Officer Dr. Naveenchandra Kulal stated that under this program, people aged 30 and above will be screened and treated for 14 non-communicable diseases, including high blood pressure, diabetes, oral cancer, diabetic retinopathy, and others.
Also present were Dr. Kishore Kumar, Principal of Suratkal District Training Center; Dr. Shivaprakash, Superintendent of Wenlock Hospital; Dr. Durgaprasad, Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital; Dr. Rajesh B.V., District RCH Officer; Dr. Chirag from Kudupu PHC; Dr. Sadananda Poojary; Dr. Sowmya; and Dr. Sharath Babu.
District Health Education Officer Jyothi K. Ulepady hosted and concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
