Mumbai: Renowned Hindi cinema comedian and actor Goverdhan Asrani has passed away at the age of 84. He was admitted to the Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai for the last five days. Asrani's manager Babubhai Tiba confirmed his death and said that his last rites were performed at the Shastri Nagar crematorium in Santacruz West.

Born on January 1, 1941 in Jaipur, Goverdhan Asrani was the face of Bollywood for the last six decades. Starting his career in the 1960s, Asrani has acted in over 400 films. His unmatched sense of humour and memorable performances have left an indelible mark on the audience. His most famous role, the role of a jailor in the film 'Sholay' (1975), still makes people laugh. Apart from this, Asrani played memorable roles in films like "Khatta Meetha," "Chupke Chupke," "Choti Si Baat," "Koshish," and "Bawarchi."
Asrani's personal life was as interesting as his films. His wife Manju Bansal Irani was also an actress. They worked together in several films. Asrani entered politics in 2004 by joining the Congress party and played an active role in the Lok Sabha election campaign.
