Surathkal: In adherence to the directives of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal observed Anti-Ragging Day on August 12, 2025, at NITK Surathkal campus.
The event was presided over by Prof. Govindaj Mandela, Dean of Student Welfare (DSW), and witnessed active participation from over 200 students, along with faculty, staff, and institutional functionaries. The programme included pledge-taking, awareness talks, and activities focused on promoting a safe and inclusive campus environment.
The Director of NITK Surathkal, Prof. B. Ravi delivered a powerful message, stating: “NITK has a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging—it is a punishable offense. Our mission is to build each other up, with senior students serving as mentors to guide newcomers. We urge students to seek help, stand up, and know that you are not alone. We are here for you. Together, let’s say no to ragging and yes to dignity.”
Prof. Govind Raj Mandela, Dean of Student Welfare, added: “The essence of Anti-Ragging Day is to support one another and ensure every student feels safe and welcomed on our campus. It’s about cultivating an internal attitude of acceptance, particularly for newcomers, so they can thrive in our NITK family.”
NITK Surathkal maintains a structured anti-ragging framework, including:
- An independent Anti-Ragging Cell comprising faculty, staff, students, and local police
- A dedicated anti-ragging squad for campus vigilance
- Mandatory affidavits from students and parents as per UGC and AICTE guidelines
- Awareness posters displayed across departments, hostels, and common areas
As part of the UGC directive, NITK will observe Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to August 18, 2025.
