Puttur: St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur, celebrated Hindi Diwas in the college auditorium on Tuesday. The event highlighted the significance of Hindi as a unifying language and its growing relevance in global communication.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Ramakrishna K.S., Assistant Professor of Hindi, Government First Grade College, Sullia, spoke on the importance of the language. He noted that the very mention of “Hindi” evokes a sense of consciousness that binds people together. “Our identity in other countries is marked by Hindi. The language instills confidence in us, and with confidence, any task becomes easier. Among the thousands of languages spoken across the world, Hindi ranks third. It has the power to unite the entire nation,” he remarked.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he emphasized that communication is essentially the “language of the heart.” He encouraged students to cultivate creativity by writing articles in their own languages. “Every writer belongs to the heritage of an older generation. Likewise, we must learn to write in Hindi and love the language wholeheartedly,” he said.

The programme was graced by Dr Dimple Fernandes, Head of the Department of Hindi, and student coordinators Ahmed Raifan and Kanees Fathima. As part of the celebration, the Hindi Department organized various competitions for students, and winners were felicitated. A cultural programme followed the prize distribution.
