Puttur, June 27: The ‘Philo Yakshamrita’ certificate award ceremony was recently held at the PG Seminar Hall of St Philomena College. The event was organized in collaboration with St Philomena College YakshakalaKendra and Deshabhaktha NS Kille Foundation. Yakshakalakendra, the Centre for the Study of Indian Classical and Folk Arts, has been instrumental in promoting literary and cultural activities through its association with the NS Kille Foundation.
Yakshamrita, a certificate course designed for students interested in mastering the experimental art of Yakshagana, consists of forty hours of rigorous training. The program included written and practical tests, and at this event awarded certificates to successful students.
Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal of the College, presided over the event. In his address, he emphasized the global recognition of art and its transcendence beyond any boundaries. He lauded the students for their dedication and highlighted the unique power of art to enhance their personalities.
Kadamajalu Subhash Rai, President of the NS Kille Foundation, distributed the certificates and announced the introduction of a Best Student Artist Award from the next academic year. He praised the college for its support towardsYakshagana and other arts.
The chief guest, Bhaskara Rai Kukkuvalli, a renowned patron of YakshaganaTalamaddale, commended the achievements of the institutionand wished the students continued success. Jabbar Samo, another distinguished guest, also graced the occasion.
Following the formal ceremony, a Yakshagana performance titled “Yaksha Purana PaatraPrapancha Series ‘Angaha Prahasta’” was held. The event concluded with prayers by students Hrishita and Mahima from Yaksha Kalakendra. Prashant Rai Mundalaguttu, Director of Yaksha Kalakendra and Asst Professor in the Department of Business Administration, welcomed the gathering, Suraksha S.Asst Professor in the dept of Computer Science and, Coordinator of Fine Arts, proposed vote of thanks.
