Udupi: 36-year old Fr. Mahesh Dsouza who was Assistant parish priest of Our lady of Health Church, Shirva of Udupi diocese and principal of Don Bosco School was found hanging on October 12 last year in his office to a ceiling fan. The police had closed this case as suicide.
But now, after there was protest by local people who were not satisfied with the probe with conclusion of the case as suicide and had demanded to higher level of investigation.
The locals demanded a investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation but now the government has ordered a probe by Criminal Investigation Department, a State level Agency.
Police Chief Kumara Chandra told media that " the state police's Criminal Investigation Department had been asked to probe the death of Father Mahesh Dsouza."
In responding to this fresh investigation order Bishop of Udupi Diocese Most Rev. Gerald Isaac Lobo Said " we are aware of fresh investigation orders into the death of Fr. Mahesh Dsouza. But we do not have any objections against this. Sure the diocese will cooperate as we have done it earlier too"
" We did not find anything suspicious and we are fully satisfied with the police findings. The diocese have nothing to hide and we will cooperate with any investigation"
Earlier the police had 1500 pages closure report of the case which had statements of moreover 100 people and forensic and post-mortem reports. It is also identified a person for abetting suicide.
