Mangaluru: Sahyadri college of Engineering & management, Mangaluru marked Librarians’ Day with an engaging program to honour the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. The event celebrated the pivotal role of libraries as knowledge hubs and emphasized the effective utilization of both print and digital resources in academia and research.

The program began with a lamp lighting ceremony, graced by the presence of dignitaries including Dr. Rekha D. Pai, Chief Librarian and Associate Professor, Department of Library & Information Sciences, MIT, MAHE, Manipal; Dr. S.S. Injaganeri, Principal;  Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation, Mangaluru; and Dr. Bharathi K, Librarian. Along with the dignitaries on the dais, the Vice Principal, faculty members, staff, and students were present to witness and participate in the occasion.

Dr. Bharathi K provided a comprehensive overview of the program, offering valuable insights into its significance and contributions made by faculty and students for utilizing the digital library to the fullest

The keynote address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. Rekha D. Pai, who revisited the timeless 'Five Laws of Library Science' formulated by Dr. Ranganathan, underlining their continued relevance in today’s digital academic landscape. She spoke passionately about the transformation of libraries with the advent of online and digital resources and urged students, faculty, and researchers to harness the full potential of e-resources for their academic and research activities. Dr. Pai emphasized the importance of libraries as dynamic centers of knowledge, not merely as book repositories.

Following the keynote, Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, appreciated the tireless efforts of librarians and stressed the importance of using library resources effectively to foster academic growth. He highlighted the dedication librarians bring to their profession, which significantly enriches institutional learning environments.

Dr. S.S. Injaganeri, in his presidential remarks, congratulated the library team for their continued commitment to nurturing information literacy and adapting to evolving educational needs in the digital era. He reiterated the growing significance of libraries as innovation hubs within academic institutions. The event also included the recognition of students and staff who demonstrated exemplary use of library resources, both print and digital.
