Mangalore, Nov 26: Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. Mangaluru, organised the 9th edition of the Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) on Nov 26th, 2022. On this day, more than 1000 students were present, nearly 300+ diverse projects of their own. In preparation for this event, intensive free workshops were held in various schools and colleges to encourage more students to join the problem solver community. Prior to the Grand Finale, on November 24th and 25th, there was a 2-day makers event called "Be with Engineering" this to provide a platform for students to develop their ideas while using the resources available at Sahyadri.
This event has previously been graced by eminent personalities from the UN, ISRO, DRDO, IIT, IIM, they are Prithvi Sai Penumadu - AIM - NITI Aayog Ex-Director- Aero Track, Sushil Mungekar Founder & CEO - ENpower; Education Transformist and Entrepreneurship for Children, Mukesh S- Program Manager- Beyond Bengaluru: Founder of Global Delight and Robosoft Technologies, Rajasree Devineni Marketing manager at ministry of electronics and information technology, Manjunath Bhandary -Chairman Bhandary Foundation Mangaluru and many more eminent speakers were apart of this event.
The problem statements for the event were mapped to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as defined by the United Nations. This year's problem statements were collected from the stakeholders of the community as a part of the Social Innovation Initiative focusing on sectors such as Fisheries, Education Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Health, and Waste Management. Out of the registered projects. Top 100 projects were given seed funding in order to develop their latent potential and drive.
In one of the projects the Students of Government High School(RMSA) Vitla has created a spectacle which can measure the distance of the target which is called ' Ultrasonic Sensor'. Its an electronic device that measures the distance of a target object by emitting the ultrasonic Sound waves and converts the reflected sound into electrical signal.
Nitesh and Nishchinth(10th Std) the students of Balvikas Eng Medium School Bantwal has presented the Fridge(Clay Cooler) they say " In this fridge, from 5kg to 7kg's of vegetables can be kept for more than 10 days and still they will be fresh and also the milk products from 6 to 7 days stays fresh. The cost of this project is nearly Rs. 2,200 and its made of Clay, Cement, and Bricks."
The main goal is to bring about a culture of social entrepreneurship. In today's youth, the objectives aim to direct the students towards future careers as entrepreneurs and innovators to bring about a change in society. Through this event, Sahyadri hope to inspire and nurture the budding entrepreneurs in the participants.
