Mangalore, Bondel: The second day of the novena in preparation for the Feast of St Lawrence was prayerfully observed at St Lawrence Church and Shrine, Bondel.
The morning adoration began at 10:30 a.m., followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Rev. Fr Alban D’Souza, Rector of St Lawrence Shrine & Minor Basilica, Attur-Karkala, was the main celebrant, joined by Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Parish Priest and Rev. Fr Peter Mascarenhas as concelebrants.
Preaching on the theme, Fr Alban reflected on Hebrews 11:1, reminding the faithful that "faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." He emphasized that suffering produces perseverance, character, and a hope that does not fail because God’s love is poured into our hearts. Drawing from John 11:17–27, he highlighted Martha’s unwavering faith in Jesus even in her sorrow, recognizing Him as the resurrection and the life. Fr. Alban encouraged families to pray together and trust that God knows their needs. Even a mustard seed of faith, he said, can sustain us through life’s trials. With faith and hope in Christ, we will never be disappointed.
The choir for the morning service was led by Walter Albuquerque SJ Group, directed by Mr Simon, with the liturgy organized by Ashok Nagar & Bondel Parish.
In the evening, adoration began at 5:30 p.m., followed by Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr Cyril Lobo, Spiritual Director of the Minor Seminary, Udupi, and concelebrated by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza -Parish Priest and Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves -Principal, St Lawrence English Medium School.
In his homily, Fr Cyril emphasized the transformative power of prayer. He reflected on how Jesus wept out of compassion, showing the depth of His love. He called on the faithful to pray with depth and sincerity, reminding them that true prayer, rooted in faith, gives rise to hope. Like Mother Mary, who trusted God fully, we too are called to be people of prayer. A prayerful heart is a hopeful heart.
The liturgy was led by Rosario/Bejai Parishioners , and the choir was beautifully conducted by the Revelation Group. During the service, holy water was sprinkled and devotees were anointed with holy oil, symbolizing blessing, healing, and spiritual renewal. After the morning novena, meals were served to all devotees, and during the evening Mass, blessed bread was distributed as a sign of grace and unity through the intercession of St Lawrence.
Special prayers were offered for all priests, nuns, and religious, asking for the intercession of St Lawrence to strengthen their hearts, renew their spirits, and bless them abundantly in their mission.
