Mangalore: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI), Regional Office Bengaluru in association with St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluruhas organizeda “Consumer Awareness Program” which includes sessions by experts on “Telecom Rights & Privileges” and “Cybercrime/Cybertheft” on 15-05-2025 for the benefits of students and faculties. The main objective of this program was to safeguard the Consumer interests and create consumer awareness. TRAI organizes Consumer Outreach Programmes across the country to meet this objective.

The event began at 11:00 AM at the Kalam Auditorium, AB-II. Brajendra Kumar, Regional Head and Advisor, Regional Office, TRAI, Bengaluru was the chief guest for the event. His talk on “Telecom Rights and Privileges” highlights the legal and regulatory entitlements granted to telecommunication service providers. It emphasizes the balance between facilitating network expansion and respecting public and private property rights. Additionally, the discussion addresses how governments and regulators safeguard consumer interests while ensuring fair competition among telecom operators. He has also given the information about the benefits of “TRAI DND 3.0” app. 

Dr. Rio D’Souza,Principal, SJEC graced the occasion. In his address, he has over viewed the essential of cyber security for protecting sensitive data, personal information, and critical infrastructure from unauthorized access, theft, or damage. In an increasingly digital world, strong cyber security helps individuals, businesses, and governments defend against various threats.

Maruthi, Inspector of Police, Cyber crime Police Station, Mangaluru, delivered a talk on “Cybercrime/Cybertheft”. In his session he has given the valuable inputs on cybercrime which will help the consumers to understand the risks and precautions they must take in this digital age.

K Muralidhara, Senior Research Officer, TRAI, Bengaluru has welcomed the gathering. K V Shivaprasad, Senior Research Officer, TRAI, Bengaluru was also present on this occasion.
