Mangalore: “One must grow like Dr. K. Shivarma Karantha who lived his life fully, meaningfully and outgrown to the sky level, became a legend for the whole century. He was an Indian polymath, who was a novelist in Kannada language, playwright and an ecological conservationist”. Prof. Jayaraja Amin, Hon’ble Vice Chancelor of Mangalore University, has expressed these words showing his great respect towards late Dr.K Shivarama Karantha, lightening the lamp has inaugurated a Special Lecture Programme on “Karath’s Life and writings”. This Programme was organised under the auspices of Dr. K Shivarama Karatha Adhyayana Peeta of Mangalore University and Kannada Sangha of University College at Dr. K. Shivarama Karantha Bhavan of University College on his birthday Celebrations on 10th October.

Prof. Mahalinga Bhat, Head of the Dept of Kannada of St. Aloysius College has resourced this special lecture on “Karanth’s life and his writings” and explained Karanth’s simple and straight life, and dynamic commitment towards society and environment. He has evaluated the highlights of maimanagala suliyalli, Balveye belaku, Sarasammana samaadhi, chomana dudi, kudiyara koosu, sanyaasiya baduku,karulina kare,mookajjiya kanasugalu. 

M.P. Srinath, President of Dakshina Kannada Jilla Sahitypa Parishat was a chief guest and he spoke, Dr. Karantha was involved in experiments in every angle of life printed his own novels, incurred financial losses, still ever lived as a legend and deeply concerned with the issue of nuclear energy and its impact on environment.

Dr. Anasuya Rai, Principal of University college has presided over the function and quoted about Karanth’s student days in the college campus, while the University  college was a Govt college. Dr. Subhashini srivatsa, Co-ordinator of Karantha Peeta has gave a prologue and welcomed the guests and gatherings, Dr. Madhava M.K, Director of Kannada Sangha has delivered vote of thanks.  Srilakshmi Shetty, III B.Sc has anchored the programme and Pallavi, III.Com and Vaibhavi, II B.Sc has rendered the prayer. The teachers of the college and the kannada language students were present.
