Kabul, Nov 03: A strong earthquake struck Afghanistan early this morning, killing at least 7 people and injuring more than 150.

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Mazar-e Sharif in northern Afghanistan early this morning, causing dozens of buildings to collapse.

At least seven people were killed and about 150 were injured, provincial officials said.
The earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was 22 km west-southwest of Khum in Afghanistan and was at a depth of 28 km, according to officials from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake struck at around 12.59am and the injured were being transferred to health centres, Sameem Joyanda, a spokesman for the health department in Samangan, a mountainous northern province near Mazar-e Sharif, told Reuters.
