According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred. Its epicenter was found near Narsingdi in Bangladesh.
The earthquake occurred at around 10:08 am Indian time. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 10 km southeast of Dhaka and at a depth of 10 km.
At least 6 dead
The intensity of this powerful earthquake caused the roof and wall of a building to collapse, killing three people, and three more died when the railing of a building fell, DBC Television reported.
The earth shook in India too
The earth shook not only in Bangladesh but also in many parts of India. Reports said that the earthquake was also felt in the northeastern Indian states of Meghalaya, Shillong, Tripura and Aizawl in Mizoram. Locals said that the intensity of the tremors caused fans in the houses and things hung on the walls to shake.
The earth shook in the districts of Cooch Behar, South and North Dinajpur, including the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata. Buildings shook in Kolkata, and people ran out into the streets in fear. Earthquakes also hit Pakistan
On the other hand, earthquakes also hit Pakistan on Thursday and Friday. While a 3.9 magnitude earthquake hit the neighboring country on Thursday, a 5.2 magnitude tremor was recorded on Friday, the NCS said.
Earthquakes are common in these areas as they lie at the junction of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
