Jhalawar: Four children were killed and 17 others injured when a government school building collapsed in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district this morning. The incident took place when the children were attending classes at the Peeplodi government school in Manoharthana block of the district, police said.

Four children died on the spot and ten injured children have been admitted to the Jhalawar government hospital. Four of them are in critical condition, said Jhalawar Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar.

Police said the children were pulled out of the rubble with the help of teachers and villagers. Some teachers and staff were injured in the incident and were also taken to the hospital.

The entrance of the school has been completely demolished. The building suddenly collapsed when the children were entering the school at around 10:00 AM. Firefighters and a disaster relief team rushed to the spot and carried out the operation. Locals said that the school building had collapsed due to the recent heavy rains.

More than 60 children were trapped under the debris and have now been pulled out. A medical team also reached the spot and provided first aid to the injured children. They were taken to Manoharthana CHC Hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment.
