Karkala,May 31: Two award-winning konas have passed away in an unexpected manner. Two Kambala konas have died in a fire at a hut in Beladi, Kantavara village, Karkala taluk.

The incident took place in a hut belonging to Beladi Bava Ashok Shetty. The incident came to light on  today morning when a worker came to see it. The two boys, Appu and Thonse, who had won prizes in several Kambala competitions, were found dead.

The incident is said to have occurred due to an electrical short circuit. The exact cause is yet to be known.

Appu and Thonse Kona won the series best award in the Kanehalage category in the 2022-23 season's Kambala. Thonse Kona in particular has achieved success by competing in the junior plough, senior plough, senior rope, cross plank, and Kanehalage categories and winning awards in all categories.
