Udupi : The state government has decided to 14 days compulsory institutional quarantine for the returnees from Maharastra state hereafter, said State Health Minister B. Ramalu.
Addressing a media conference after the review meeting with MLAs and other officials at DC office here on Tuesday, June 9, Minister B Ramalu said that so far 9009 returnees from Maharastra arrived to Udupi district and out of that 908 infected coronavirus. Hence, like returnees from other states, 14 days house quarantine also needed for even Maharastra returnees. We will completely seal down the residence of the infected persons. The infected person should to remain inside for 14 days home quarantine. If anyone violates the home quarantine, then the statewide decided to prosecute the infected person, he said.
We have given full authority to each deputy commissioner’s to make change if needed in relate to home quarantine. We already changed some rules and given order to district administration. Minister further said that in Udupi district even there are 947 people infected the coronavirus, no one has infected for the community. If third stage completed with negative report, then there will no danger to spread the COVID-19 in the community.
Health Minister said that in order to keep vigil on quarantine persons, we will appoint policemen, home guards, home guards and anganwadi workers. If anyone found break of home quarantine, neighbourhood should pass the information. Minister also said that if infected person found poor, we asked to temples to provide food kit for them. In case of infected person in apartment buildings, the entire building will not be sealed and only concerned infected person only would be seal down, he said.
To a query on allegations of private hospitals while treating the coronavirus infected people charging too high charges, minister said that in such cases, action will be taken to those hospitals.
Another query on upgrade of district hospital at Ajjarkad, minister said that there has been high pressure and demand to make upgrade of Udupi district hospital. We will surely undertake to upgrade the hospital with 250 beds. Meanwhile in Karkala, Kundapur and other taluk hospitals there has been shortage of machinery and manpower. He said, such hospitals also upgraded with extra beds, manpower and medical equipments also.
The district MLAs demanded the extra ventilators in the hospital, that also will be provided soon, Minister B. Ramalu said.
To a query in relate to Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Hazi Abdulla Government Mother and Child Hospital taking over by the government at Udupi , minister said that the hospital authorities requested the government to provide medical personnel to the hospital. Accordingly, we have already proved six medical staff to the hospital. There would be lot of demands for the hospital which will be sorted out after the meeting with local elected representatives and other concerned officials and will take the decisions.
Minister informed that in the state the government and officials taken all measures to control the pandemic of coronavirus in the state. There are only 14 infected people in ICU units presently in various hospitals.
