Udupi: The District deputy commissioner, G Jagadeesh, instructed the officials of the Highway Authority of India to take all necessary precautions in the event of accidents during the monsoon season.

He presided over a meeting at the DC office at Rajathadhri on Saturday, June 6.

DC pointed out that in the rainy season, there is a risk of water crashes on National Highway 66, and such locations should be identified and promptly stopped by the water on the highway. District Collector G. Jagdish suggested that the sewer constructed on the side of the highway be used for smooth flow of water, installation of appropriate notice boards wherever necessary, and proper closure of potholes on the highway.

Ensure proper closure of potholes in National Highway 166A, stop water near Indrali Railway Bridge, and install signage boards near municipal highway intersections. The District Collector advised the officials to take all necessary precautions to prevent accidents by installing signboards on the roads.

DC instructed the police officials to take action on travelling opposite directions on highways. He also instructed to the Udupi City Municipal Commissioner to evacuate the bustling Santhekatte market within a week.

Additional District Collector B. Sadashiva Prabhu, ASP Kumara Chandra, Kundapur Deputy Divisional Officer Raju, District Panchayat Deputy Secretary Nagesh Raikar, National Highway Authority officials and various district officials were also present.
