Udupi : Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of the Udupi diocese observed the Titular Feast of Our Lady of Milagres on Thursday, July 9, 2020.
The main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebrations was Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese along with Rev Fr. Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of the Milagres Cathedral, Rev Fr. Canute Noronha Asst. parish priest, Rev Fr. Vijay Castalino, Asst. parish priest of St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, Rev Fr. John Bennett, Superior of Pilar Fathers Mini Seminary and Rev Fr. Jossy Mascarenhas Vocational Director of Pilar Fathers Kallianpur.
In his beautiful homily by Rev Fr. Jithesh Castelino briefed on the role of Mother Mary in the church and on us. Mother Mary is mother of all. We should remember that it was her Divine Son Jesus who gave us the eminent gift of His Mother even as he was dying on the cross. The mystery of spiritual motherhood of Mary has been actualized boundlessly in history. Since Mother Mary is the Mother of us all who care of us in our life. We can understand the universal care of our Mother in Heaven for us. Mother Mary loves us all with a pure, selfless and steadfast mother of love. She tirelessly calls to our hearts and soul. The love and affection on us by the Mother Mary will important for our life and Mother Mary is the Mother of our spirituality.
Fr Jithesh said that Mother Mary shows us the way to reach the Jesus in Heaven. She will take care of us. She would be the emotional Mother. The treasure of Mary is a gift to be received, moving from the acceptance of Mary as the Mother of the Lord to Mary as our mother, Mother of God, Mother of Redeemer, Mother of Church, Mother of Popular devotion and Mother of tradition. Mary is first disciple of Jesus; She is the model of Holiness. She is the Mother of humanity. Mother of Miracles has been the role model to keep faith on her with God almighty, he said.
On behalf of Rector of the Cathedral, Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza, at the end of Eucharistic celebrations, Assistant vicar Fr. Canute Noronha offered gratitude on the occasion of the titular feast. On behalf of Vicar of the cathedral, Fr Canute Noronha conveyed the wishes of titular feast of Our Lady of Miracles to all concerned and parishioners.
Bishop handed over beautiful decorated candle to firgent, main sponsor of the feast, Gilbert D’Silva son of Late A.J D’Silva and late Angeline D’Sillva on behalf of his family who firgent continuously since exactly 75 years. The firgent of the titular feast of Our Lady of Miracles, 72 years back, Late A J D’Silva family who donated beautiful statue of Our Lady of Miracles at the altar. The other main sponsor of the feast was Ronson Lewis and fly and large number of co-sponsors.
At the end, Bishop also conveyed festive wishes to concerned as well as all concerned. On account of Coronavirus pandemic, government procedures were maintained during the Eucharistic celebrations. Only nuns, few choir members and important persons were participated during the mass. Last year due to shortage of monsoon rain, Bishop prayed at the end of the mass for the rain, later few minutes’ heavy rain poured for more than half an hour with strong winds and showers miraculously. Our Lady of Miracles pray for us.
