Surat: Technical glitches in ATMs are common.. There are many examples of customers cursing and complaining against banks. Similarly, a customer received Rs 3 lakh instead of the Rs 10 thousand he lost.

Surprisingly, it is true.. On February 18, 2017, a person from Surat district of Gujarat tried to withdraw Rs 10 thousand from a Bank of Baroda ATM. He inserted his debit card into the ATM machine and entered the amount by pressing the PIN.
But due to a technical glitch, the money could not be withdrawn that day. Later, when he returned home, he received a message from the bank on his mobile, stating that Rs 10 thousand had been withdrawn from his account.
Shocked by this, the person immediately contacted the bank and explained the inconvenience he had faced. The person had only complained verbally at that time. But that day, he did not get any help from the bank. Later, the man made a big circus to get his money back.
Countless emails, messages, complaints
The man, who lost money due to no fault of his, has made a lot of efforts to get his money back. He was in touch with the bank’s customer support team through emails from March to May. After getting a positive response from them, he contacted the RBI and other companies. Finally, the man filed a complaint with the consumer forum.
The ATM is not ours.. the bank is right
During the hearing of the complaint filed with the consumer protection forum, Bank of Baroda bank officials denied the allegations, saying that the ATM belongs to SBI. We have nothing to do with it. However, the consumer forum has rejected the bank’s allegations.
They were asked to show precise evidence that the transaction was successful. It was also ordered to return the money to the customer within five days. However, the bank did not return the money to the customer for five days.
The consumer forum has given a final verdict and has directed the bank to pay an amount of Rs 10,000 along with an annual interest of 9 percent and a penalty of Rs 100 per day for delay.
Accordingly, it has been 3,288 days since the complaint in this case was filed, and the bank now has to pay Rs 3,28,800 to the victim customer. The court has also ordered the bank to pay Rs 2 lakh for mental harassment in connection with the case.
