Bengaluru March 24: It is not new for people to lose money by falling for the lure of money doubling. However, a gang here has duped a contractor of Rs.28 lakh by giving him a strange story called ‘Barish Money’ (rain of money). The Bagalgunte police, who have cracked the case, have arrested three fraudsters and seized lakhs of rupees.
What is the ‘Barish Money’ scam?
The arrested accused, Vijay from Madhugiri, Krishna Singh from Kereguddadahalli and driver Naveen, had hatched this conspiracy. They used to assure people that if they gave Rs.1 lakh, they would give Rs.3 lakh in real money in return. They used to impose a strange condition that ‘the money we give will turn into paper after 9 months, you have to spend it within that time’. Those who believed this were cheated in the name of ‘rain money’ or money rain.
Contractor gets Rs 28 lakhs in bribe
A contractor named Ramesh, who believed these crooks, was ready to invest Rs 28.60 lakhs. As per the agreement, Ramesh had brought the money near the 8th mile of Bangalore. The accused took Rs 28 lakhs from Ramesh, saying that he would bring the money in a cheque. The gang of accused fled from there as soon as the money was in their hands. As soon as Ramesh realized that he had been cheated, he filed a complaint at the Bagalgunte police station. The police, who took up the investigation of the case, carried out a swift operation and arrested the three accused.
The police recovered Rs 40 lakhs!
During the police interrogation, it came to light that this gang had cheated not only Ramesh but also another person of Rs 18 lakh in a similar manner. Currently, the police have seized a total of Rs 40 lakh in cash from the accused. The police have appealed to the public not to believe those who say that they will double the money or give it at a cheaper rate. Currently, the Bagalgunte police are continuing their investigation to see if anyone else is behind this network.
