Mysore: It is customary to mock the coconut shell given to you during financial transactions. However, no one can say that anymore. Because now coconut shells have also received a good price. Therefore, traders are coming to your doorstep and buying coconut shells.

Coconut shells were usually used only for charcoal and decorative items. However, coconut shell charcoal is being exported abroad. Also, due to the increased demand for coconut water, farmers have sold coconut water. Due to this, the supply of coconuts has decreased. Therefore, the demand for coconut shells has increased, say shell traders.
No need to throw away coconut shells
At home, coconuts are peeled and their skins are put in the oven. After breaking the coconut, it is common in villages to put the shell in the oven or throw it away with the waste. However, since the price of the coconut shell that is thrown away in this way has increased, women have now started collecting the shell using coconuts.

Traders everywhere are buying one rupee per coconut shell. Some are buying coconut shells by the kilo, paying Rs. 20-22 per kg. The purchased shells are being stored and sent to other parts including Tiptur and Arasi Kere. (High demand for coconut prices)
Price of shell also increases
Every part of the coconut tree is very useful to humans in one form or another. Coconut water, coconut, coir, sawdust, coconut husk, coconut oil, coconut straw for the roof of the house, coconut husk after peeling the coconut is used to heat hot water. The fact that coconut shells are now in greater demand than anything else has made the traders and the people happy. It is also bringing profit. No one can talk cheaply about coconut shells anymore. Because shells also have a price.
‘I was trading onions for a long time. Someone who came to the market told me about the coconut shell business. Now I am doing the same business and it is good. I store the shells and sell them in Tiptur, Arasikere and other places,” said Raghavendra, a coconut shell buyer from Machabayanahalli.
